    Other notable centers of education include Otago Polytechnic - of interest is Otago Polytechnics new Living Campus concept.

    The Centre for Sustainable Practice was established in 2007 to lead the development of sustainable practice in the Otago region. It operates as a business unit of Otago Polytechnic and is based at the Central Otago campus in Cromwell. The Centre’s core activities are education, consultancy and research. The education arm develops multidisciplinary courses, events, best practice visits and conferences, and access to sustainable products and services. The consultancy arm provides access to expertise and related services such as evaluating and recommending improvements to sustainability of business practices. The research arm undertakes research into issues related to sustainability, such as rating the sustainability of products and services.

    Rail Trail

    Otago Rail Trail offers a free booking service which co-ordinates your bike hire, accommodation, luggage and shuttle transfers. The trail can be accessed throughout the year, and has been specifically created for mountain bikers, walkers and horse riders. The Trail follows the old Central Otago branch railway line from Clyde to Middlemarch passing though many towns along the way.

    Vanished World Trail

    The Vanished World Trail – part of the national Heritage Trail network - provides a self-guided 80 km tour around selected geological sites in North Otago, from Duntroon to Waianakarua. Sites are on public and private land; access to sites is free. The trail is a community initiative developed in partnership with the University of Otago to foster conservation, education and scientific study.
