World Wildlife Day takes place each year on March 3 and focuses global attention on biodiversity and wildlife. In 2017 there will be a record number of live video panels showcasing current efforts of conservation and countering wildlife crime. This wiki page digs deep and shows how to make the most of World Wildlife Day on the Social Web and where to find information about World Wildlife Day.

World Wildlife Day is celebrated on March 3rd, the date that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was adopted in 1973. The goal of World Wildlife Day is to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora; recall the privileged interactions between wildlife and populations across the globe; and raise awareness of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime, which has wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts.

The Plight of the Pangolin -- Raise Awareness of the World’s Most Trafficked Mammal on World Wildlife Day

Wildlife trafficking is a multi-billion dollar criminal enterprise that poses a serious and urgent threat to conservation and national security. The increasing involvement of organized crime in poaching and wildlife trafficking promotes corruption, threatens the peace and security of fragile regions, strengthens illicit trade routes, and destabilizes economies and communities that depend on wildlife for their livelihoods.

To celebrate World Wildlife Day, Under Secretary Catherine Novelli will host a Google+ Hangout - moderated by Peter Knights, Executive Director at WildAid - on wildlife trafficking around the world.

Guests:
• Catherine A. Novelli, Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment at the U.S. Department of State
• Peter Knights, Executive Director at WildAid
• Paula Kahumbu, Executive Director of Wildlife Direct
• Hong Haong, Executive Director for CHANGE
• Grace Ge Gabriel, Asia Regional Director for International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)
Do you have questions for the participants? Ask now and tune in on Tuesday, March 3 at 9:00AM ET.
