We need more primers for scientists who not being able to communicate, bemoan the fact that few people are listening. The challenge at hand - and we're looking at you, climate change conference delegates, biodiversity conservation champions, world heritage specialists, lies in creating opportunities for information sharing before, during and after big events. If few people are paying attention, then congratulations you've built a wall around global conference. Instead cultivate interest early and reward the hoi polloi for giving attention.

Make it fun

Tyler DeWitt: Hey science teachers -- make it fun - High school science teacher Tyler DeWitt was ecstatic about a lesson plan on bacteria (how cool!) -- and devastated when his students hated it. The problem was the textbook: it was impossible to understand. He delivers a rousing call for science teachers to ditch the jargon and extreme precision, and instead make science sing through stories and demonstrations.

Radiolab believes your ears are a portal to another world. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience. Big questions are investigated, tinkered with, and encouraged to grow. Bring your curiosity, and we'll feed it with possibility.

Scientific Thinking, the Universe, and the Modern World - Lisa Randall is an expert on both particle physics and cosmology. She explains how the latest developments in physics have the potential to radically revise our understanding of the universe: its make-up, its evolution and the fundamental forces that determine its operation.

Open Science - For the past hundred years Science has taken on a secretive dimension, driven by military and economic imperatives. The idea of the 'Open Science' movement involves promoting greater sharing and transparency. We explore the movement's ambitions and the hurdles it faces.

Congress Unplugged! Set the default to Open - There is a growing movement to change the lack of taxpayer’s access to scientific research by supporting policies that require all published results to be made available to the public, free, online as soon as possible. This talk by Heather Joseph will outline actions you can take to get involved and make taxpayer-funded science openly .

The case of open science - The need to share scientific knowledge has never been more urgent. The present global knowledge system is good at generating knowledge, but poor at sharing it. Science communicator and author Julian Cribb talks about the need for better communication of science in society.

Opening up Science - For the past hundred years Science has taken on a secretive dimension, driven by military and economic imperatives. The idea of the 'Open Science' movement involves promoting greater sharing and transparency. We explore the movement's ambitions and the hurdles it faces.

Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics - Robyn Williams visits Canada's Perimeter Institute for theoretical physics. The institute is known for its multidisciplinary approach, fostering an environment where people from a range of backgrounds can work together, developing ideas by sparking off each other. The institute was founded in 2000 by Mike Lazaridis, who invented the Blackberry and donated $100 million for Perimeter's establishment.

2010 Reith Lecture Series: The Runaway World - In the last Reith Lecture of 2010, Martin Ree explores how fast our world is moving in the 21st century. Speaking at the Open University in Milton Keynes, the home of online learning, he acknowledges how the internet and other technologies have transformed our lives.

Crowd Science - Evaluating the argument that the lateral thinking contributions of citizens is greatly improving scientific outcomes.
