NEW MEXICO
New Mexico is a southwestern U.S. state whose diverse terrain encompasses the Chihuahuan Desert and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. New Mexico was admitted to the union as the 47th state on January 6, 1912. It is usually considered one of the Mountain States. New Mexico is fifth by area, the 36th-most populous, and the sixth-least densely populated of the 50 United States. The capital, Santa Fe, was founded in 1610.

Discovery Tours by Navajo Tours USA: Chaco Culture National Historic Park. Designated a World Heritage Site during the 11th session in Paris, France by UNESCO in December 1987, Chaco Culture National Historical Park is managed by the National Park Service. The park is listed as a travel destination on the Trails of the Ancients Byway, one of the designated New Mexico Scenic Byways.

Photo Tours by Navajo Tours USA: Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness. The Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness is part of a dozen badland areas in the San Juan Basin in northwest New Mexico. What you find here is a fantasy world of land formations of sandstone, shale, coal, and silt. Visit the weathered formations with names such as the Alien Throne, Egg Hatchery, the Sphinx, and the Three Sentinels.

Kialo Winters, Co-founder & Owner, is Navajo who lives on the Navajo Nation reservation in northwest New Mexico. He holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Education from Fort Lewis College, Durango, CO and has extensive experience in technology. Previously, he served as an Emergency Medical Technician in his community on the reservation. An advocate of place-based learning, he brings a unique perspective to discovery tours for travel guests.

Terri Winters, a Co-founder & Owner, is also Navajo and the wife of Kialo. Previously, she also served as an Emergency Medical Technician in her community on the reservation. Terri is a mother, baker, and cook. She is a traditional food herbalist who will be publishing the book, “Defining the Navajo Way of Life Through Food: 19 Authentic Navajo Foods Today.”

Nancy Upthegrove-Jaramillo, technical writer and advisor, is Seneca from New York with two degrees. The first, Bachelors of Professional studies in Environmental Design & Planning from Empire State College, SUNY and the second, a Masters in Education from New Mexico Highlands University. She also holds a Level II teaching license. Nancy is a traditional holistic teacher/ practitioner of American Indian experiential learning with individuals and small groups. She is often a guest speaker and storyteller at local and regional events.

Eric Manolito, Executive Manager, is Navajo who grew up on the Navajo Nation reservation in northwest New Mexico. He holds a Bachelors of Arts in Native American Studies from Stanford University, Stanford, CA. Previously, he served as Senior Regional Coordinator at Futures For Children in Albuquerque, New Mexico and worked as the Project Manager/Consultant for Rezonate Art in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
