Hangouts

Blog: Mexico-Infused Hangouts

If you have been reading me for the past year, it should be clear: the conversations in our hangouts are like diamond mines where we find truly inspired ideas and breaking news. There is something journalist-y about the endeavor, but it manifests more a model of open journalism in which we are co-creating stories. Plus there's always a new word I need to learn, something from show-and-tell and quite a bit of local insight.

September hangouts are Mexico-infused during our annual shoutout.

We hope to chat with some of my favorite amigos and amigas @HotelXixim @Sectur_Chiapas @Responda @ElDailyPost @marehrenberg @zalvador @AntonioSuarez1 @mexicobiketour @ojoqtv @topete @mexicoguru@BnZunni @DulcesTioQuique @Jualjire @john_a_noble @MiMuseoIndigena @WeVisitMexico @durangoturistic

Now that I no longer live in México, I depend on depend on these friends for tweets and Facebook updates and Flickr/Instagram photos for news of what’s happening. Wiki editors are encouraged to update and Planeta’s Mexico pages

México, like most countries, is rarely shown in a positive light if any light in mainstream news. What I try to accomplish with the hangouts is to take a snapshot of the present (September 2015) and listen to what our friends want to share and what they want to be remembered. We also have a few questions — all touristy – that we ask in the spirit of educating and inspiring a first-time visitor.

Questions:
A friend of a friend is visiting Mexico for the very first time. What would you recommend as a solid must visit and must visit slowly destination?

A friend of a friend is visiting Mexico for the very first time. This person loves folk art and artesania -- which individual artisans would you recommend seeking out?

A friend of a friend is visiting Mexico for the very first time. This person loves biking. What services to you recommend?

A friend of a friend is visiting Mexico for the very first time. This person wants to learn Spanish. What schools do you recommend? What practices do you recommend?

“Mexico Lindo y Querido” unites musicians across Mexico and demonstrates the beauty of this great country. No matter how many things in this life may divide us, they are never as strong as the things that bring us together. This is the power of music.
