What does like mean?

Ron Mader: Twitter's search engine sucks, so I like posts to return to them. On Twitter, my likes -- -- are a mix of posts I want to curate on Storify or Flipboard. Some I know I will come back to if I can only find the tweet. There are some fantastic photos and posters, which if I like them (and in this case I really, really do), I can easily recommend them to other via curation. Again, check out Flipboard for my favorite bits of Australia, Mexico and the intangibles like the social web.

How do we best use the social web?

What do you like and dislike about Facebook? Google+? LinkedIn? Slideshare? Twitter? YouTube?

Twitter - A like is not necessarily an affirmation.

Tip - You do not have to like a social web channel to use it effectively.

Do we have to 'like' something to like something?

If we want to improve our communication, it's time to breakdown the social web channel by channel or tool by tool. There is no one size fits all solution so our conversations will need to be customized between individuals or organizations. There's no need to be registered on all the channels, but we should be clear about the ways we prefer to communicate and interact with colleagues.

The good news: if we discuss this 1-1 on a regular basis with colleagues, chances are our communication will improve. For example, if I let you know that I prefer email over direct messages on Facebook or Twitter, you have a clearer idea of how to get in contact with me.

Presence on the social web needs to be regularly updated or the pages will be appear obsolete and fail to deliver results. Like it or not, that's the way this works!

Register on social web channels in which you can be active. Otherwise, the engagement is anti social networking.

A friend writes: I can't really comment publicly on what I like or dislike, as everything is public now, and you never know if a company will knock you down a notch if a critique comes to their attention. I fear that the days of going public on the Web with views that are in any way negative, if you want to eat, your family to eat, and a roof over your head, are gone.
