June 1-5 Scheduling Periscope sessions during the Immersion Travel Conference and World Environment Day

Downtown Las Vegas (commonly abbreviated as DTLV) is the central original gambling district and historic center of Las Vegas. It's the heart of the city and one recovering from years of neglect.

The next big thing is happening now in downtown Las Vegas.

I'm referring to the growing number of bicycle share programs around the world. New in 2017 is a bike share program run by the city --

Officials say that 'bike sharing makes it economical and convenient to use bikes for trips that are too far to walk but too short to drive.'

We say that bike sharing is fun. A slow adventure fun.

If 2017 has a brightspot, it's this bike sharing program. It could be a lot of fun to get people together to explore downtown on two wheels and that's our plan over the next few months, particularly June 1-5th as we prepare our celebrations of World Environment Day. Given that four of's Colibri Award winners were working with bikes and cycling, it seems a good time to show off what's working locally.

We are reflecting more on bicycle tourism in 2017 and the role bikes play in the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. When there are more options for local and visitors to hop on a bike, city tourism changes.

Not everyone has the same comfort zone riding in cities.

April 30 - Today I made my first ride downtown. Absolute joy to ride in this weather past locals and party-goers and two weddings. Still figuring out how to rent a bike for someone else. Wish there were shade to see the screen. Wish the app had more info about local happenings near the stations. - Ron Mader

April 31 - Spotted Las Vegas High School (Academy of the Arts). No traffic on a Sunday morning #SlowAdventures #RTCities

The official spin: "As a member, you can use a RTC bike to run an errand, grab lunch, travel from the bus stop to your office, or just get some fresh air. That's what makes bike sharing so great: a bike that's there when you need it and gone when you don't. With your RTC bike, you don’t have to look for a parking space or bring your own bike with you everywhere you go. Plus, riding a bike is good for your health and for the environment. It’s the newest and best way to get around downtown. The bikes are specially designed for both you and the city: they fit people of all sizes, thanks to an easy-to-use adjustable seat post. A great front basket provides a space to store your belongings while riding and automatic lights help keep you safe at all times of day. The bikes are equipped with three speeds, that are perfect for your short commute. RTC Bike Share is designed to encourage you to use a a bike for all your short trips. Once you've paid your membership fee, you can take an unlimited number of rides for 30 minutes or less!"

“I absolutely see tourist travel increasing into the downtown and becoming explosive, a place of which millennials and even their parents can come and enjoy living, and being productive and having a phenomenal time.

Downtown: Container Park

Places to visit downtown - it's a shopping/restaurant complex built from shipping containers. It may not sound like much, but it's the first successful renovation/reclamation in the downtown. Compare the mood here to Fremont Street Experience. If you want to be jarred and delighted, Fremont is electric fun. If you want to slow down in a family-friendly environment, this is the place.
