Del Este National Park, home to manatees, two resident dolphin species and an endemic parrot, is one of the most popular protected areas in the Caribbean - though its the undeveloped white sandy beaches that are the main attraction for the 600,000 plus annual visitors. The low park entrance fee (US$2.50) falls well short of what is needed to mitigate the threats that the high volume of visits creates.
