LOCATION AND FYI - Calgary is the largest city in the province of Alberta.

NATURAL WORLD - The city is located in a region of foothills and high plains, approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) east of the Canadian Rockies. Calgary is popular place for winter sports with a number of major mountain resorts nearby Palentology lovers will find Dinosaur Provincial Park, a Unesco World Heritage site, two hours east of the city. World class brown trout fishing is found in the Bow River running through Calgary.

City Parks - The largest parks in the city are Fish Creek Provincial Park and Nose Hill Park

Nose Hill Natural Environment Park lies in the northwest part of the city, surrounded by 12 residential communities. The park was created in 1980 and covers over 11 square kilometres. The hill most likely gets its name from the fact that, from certain locations and with a little imagination, it looks like a nose.

CULTURAL WORLD - Calgary holds many major annual festivals which include the Calgary Stampede, the Folk Music Festival, the Lilac Festival, Wordfest: Banff-Calgary International Writers Festival, One World Festival (GlobalFest) and the second largest Caribbean festival in the country (Carifest). Calgary was ranked the World's Cleanest City by Mercer Quality of Living in a survey published in 2007 by Forbes Magazine.




TRANSPORTATION - Calgary's airport is the third busiest in Canada as ranked by aircraft movements. Visitors can expect efficient service and free luggage carts at Calgary International. Calgary boasts 635 kilometers (391 miles) of pathways for biking, walking or running; 110 kilometres are cleared of snow for winter runners and bikers.
