ecotourism who?
Meet the Players

related: workshops, communication

Too often the traditional focus on defining responsible or ecotourism or local travel narrowly targets a destination (yes, I said that) or activity instead of looking at who participates in the process. How might we make a radical leap forward? It is a matter of connecting the amazing constellation of Players (a.k.a. Stakeholders).

Stakeholder is a word that has expanded from describing someone who may actually have a stake in a situation or problem, now being over-used in business to describe customers and others. - http://www.lssu.edu/banished

Perhaps instead of asking what is local travel, we could ask who is local travel?

Picture the table where they share common interests and remain independent, some fiercely so! But at the end of the day they're part of a shared circle. I picture the visitor swapping stories with the local hosts, including artisans, market vendors, hotel owners, restaurant owners, the newspaper vendor, followed by everyone who works in transportation, customs and the like. It's a big circle! If we focus on the supercharging the local, regional and international relationships – akin to what we explore in Storytelling Now – we have a lot of great energy to work with.
